The league is, obviously, a women's hockey league based around Florida's Gulf Coast, comprising of twelve teams and two divisions, North and South. The FGWHA allows players as young as 16 years old to participate in any aspect of a team, whether a player or staff member.

Season structureEdit

The FGWHA has a preseason, a regular season, a playoff tournament, and a handful of exhibition outdoor roller hockey games in the summer.

PreseasonEdit

The FGWHA preseason is warmup of exhibition games for teams to prepare for the upcoming season after the off-season lineup changes.

Regular seasonEdit

The FGWHA regular season consists of 55 games, starting in early October, ending in late March. The games are played only on Fridays, Saturdays, and holidays with the exception of Christmas and Christmas Eve. Each team plays 4 games versus each team in the opposite division, 6 games versus their closest rival, and 5 versus each of the other division teams.

PlayoffsEdit

The FGWHA playoffs are a two-round tournament to determine the FGWHA Champions. Each round is a traditional best-of-seven series. In the first round, the top two teams from each division face each other to determine a Division Champion. In the second round, the Division Champions play each other to determine the FGWHA Champion.

Off-seasonEdit

Once the FGWHA Championship is awarded, the off-season begins. As typical, players retire, staff changes are made, players are traded and sign new contracts.

FGWHA Surf & Sun SaturdaysEdit

The FGWHA Surf & Sun Saturdays, designed to keep players active and to allow fans to see their favorite players more, are a few outdoor roller hockey games the league holds in the summer. Each team plays afternoon games on the last Saturday of July and first two of August. The July game is always a rivalry game, and the August games against another team in its own division. The "surf" part of the name refers to the fact that all of the teams have their rinks on beaches. Should weather issues arise, the league would adjust game times, and sometimes game days when necessary.
